The promise of the massification of fifth generation networks opens the possibility of imagining a great revolution in logistics processes, which will see the Internet of Things (IoT) as a first-line ally.
Logistics and a large part of the processes associated with it have been in constant search for years for tools and technologies that allow a higher level of efficiency in the use of resources and effectiveness when achieving the results that are proposed for them.
This characteristic has long meant that some of the most notable uses of emerging technologies are generated and incubated within logistics processes, something that does not only occur within the military context as some might think.
This has been the case, for example, of tools as highly known within the context of supply chains as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), which despite not having great recognition in the mass consumption sector, is today part of many solutions in production, storage, transportation and distribution processes.
Other types of technologies recognized to a greater extent by the general public, such as high-speed mobile connections, are redefined within the logistics field, achieving great impact in many of the tasks associated with the sector, and consequently, within a number of elements of the daily life of practically all actors within a modern society.
Faithful to this tradition and despite the early maturity of the next great milestone in terms of mobile connections, logistics is already emerging as one of the main users and development focuses of the promising fifth generation networks, which are in full development and which are expected to enable technological expansion exponentially.
Given that one of the main beneficiaries of the promising characteristics of 5G will be, according to experts, the internet of things, within the field of logistics, advances of great impact and importance are expected that will revolutionize the way in which processes are developed until today.
